Advanced Puppet Training (3 Days)

This training course is a follow-on from the “Puppet Fundamentals” course for system administrators. This class covers advanced skills for senior system administrators and developers who are looking to implement Puppet IT Automation software into complex environments and who wish to optimize the Puppet solution for large scale deployments. The topics covered reinforce good workflow models introduced in “Puppet Fundamentals” training, including:

• Developing great manifest code
• Reporting and Auditing
• Mcollective
• Optimizing and scaling Puppet
• Code Compression and Best Practices

Course Objective:

After completing this course, system admins will be able to configure complex systems infrastructure using optimized syntax in a Puppet environment with multiple Masters and agents.

Target Audience:

The target audience for this course include newer members at an organization already using Puppet, or experienced sysadmins wanting to bring Puppet into their team.

Prerequisites:

To complete the course successfully, attendees must have completed “Puppet Fundamentals” training or have equivalent hands-on experience with Puppet IT Automation software. Previous completion of “Extending Puppet using Ruby” training or equivalent Puppet development experience is helpful, but not required for attending this course. Students should have a minimum of 1-2 years system admin experience, including in Linux/Unix environments.

Certification

This course, as well as the “Puppet Fundamentals” course and the “Extending Puppet using Ruby” course will be the recommended preparatory training for the future Puppet Master certification.
